The waste heat boiler is for utilising heat from a Diesel, or similar, engine exhaust, partic. in ships. It comprises an evaporator-drum linked to a heat exchanger in the exhaust duct by a downcomer and a steam pipe, positioned to provide a head for water flow to the heat exchanger. This comprises several tube coils (6) in parallel. The downcomer (8) feeds each coil via a separate NRV (9), and each has a separate steam return pipe (11). The coils are fitted where the gas temp. is 500 deg. C or less.
