A stringed musical instrument having a body & a neck portion incorporates a truss rod in the neck to compensate for any tendency of the neck to warp. The neck(12) is provided with a slot(30) in its face remote from the fret board with the truss rod disposed in the slot. One end of the truss rod is screwed into an anchor nut(24) while the other end has a rotatable nut for adjusting tension in the rod. The ends of the rod are of circular cross-sectional shape while the major portion(28) is of flattened form to increase its flexibility.
