The air cooled exhaust valve is for use with an IC engine. The valve has an elongated stem and an enlarged head formed at one end of the stem. The stem is axially mounted a housing while the enlarged valve head cooperates with a valve seat in the housing. A fluid passageway in the housing is connected at one end to a source of pressurised air. The other end is open to the valve stem so that pressurised air flows axially down along the valve stem and across the valve head to cool both the head and stem.
