The mechanism drives a gear, partic. of large diameter, running in bearings in a frame, by means of a number of pinions spaced round it and each in bearings in a housing. These housings are guided in paths concentric to the gear and secured by flexible connectors to fixed points on the frame. A rope (5), roughly on the centre line of the gear teeth, extends round the pinion housings (4) on the sides opposite to the meshing points, and also round the same number of abutments (6) fixed to the frame (1). Each oinion (3) has guide rollers, so as to keep the tooth backlash to a minimum.
