Compounds of the formula <CHEM> where R1 is H, -CH3, -CH2CH3 or -CH2OCH3; W is COOR2, CONR3R4, COSR5, COCl, CN or <CHEM> R2 is H, C1-C4 alkyl, -CH2CH2OCH3, -CH2CH2OCH2CH3 or -CH2CH2CH2OCH3; R3 is H, C1-C3 alkyl or -OCH3; R4 is H or C1-C3 alkyl; R5 is C1-C4 alkyl; and R6 and R7 are independently H or CH3; and agriculturally suitable salts thereof, exhibit herbicidal activity. They are of particular interest for selectively controlling grass weeds in broadleaf crops. For such use they can be formulated into compositions in conventional manner. The novel compounds can be made by e.g. reacting 4-(3,5-dichloropyridin-2-yloxy)phenol with R1@HCH=CHCOR2 or R1 @HCH=CHCN and if necessary transforming the product initially obtained. |
