<p>PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound in high purity and yield, by reacting an alkylene oxide with an alkyl acetate in the presence of a calcined hydrotalcite compound as a safe, easily recoverable and reusable catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An alkylene glycol ether acetate is prepared by reacting an alkylene oxide with an alkyl acetate in the presence of 1-10wt%, based on the alkylene oxide, of a catalyst comprising a calcined hydrotalcite compound (e.g. the compound of formula (M<2+> is Mg<2+>, Zn<2+>, Mn<2+>, etc.; M<3+> is Al<3+>, Fe<3+>, Cr<3+>, etc.; A<n-> is Cl<->, NO3<->, etc.; 0<x<0.33; m is 4-5), pref. Mg6Al2(OH)16CO3. 4H2O obtained as a natural mineral). The calcination is carried out at 400-600 deg.C for 1-10hr, especially at 500 deg.C to attain the maximum basicity. The catalyst thus prepared has high basicity, and the number of the basic sites is the largest in the solid base.</p> |
