Coins are singly passed through an entry slot that is vertical (9) and swings through a curve to an acceptance channel. The curved section (6) coupled to an electro-magnetic actuator that moves upon command of the sensor status to allow coins to fall in a vertical channel (90). A side taper on the curved section slows down the coin as it passes through. The sensor (21) is positioned such that a correct coin is balanced (7) on the edge of the curved section. A photo diode and photo cell provide the sensing operation.
