<p>PURPOSE:To improve dephosphorizing and desulfurizing effect by performing refining by the use of a flux comprising essentially alkaline metal carbonate in a metal refining furnace. CONSTITUTION:In the case of performing refining of steel in a metal refining furnace, a solvent comprising essentially alkaline metal carbonate is added into molten steel on the way of oxygen blowing. It is added by a method of adding the same after making the C content in molten steel <= about 0.5% or charging part of the same in the early period of blowing and adding the remainder after lowering the C content in the molten steel. Or it is sometimes practised by desilicating the molten iron prior to charging into a metal refining furnace then performing the above- described operations. In order to increase the efficiency of the flux, it is preferable to blow a gas under the bath surface and stir the molten steel after adding the same.</p> |
