PURPOSE:To enable use of a heat generating transfer material with high thermal efficiency and a simple construction, by recording on an image-receiving material part through selective heat generation in a heat generating material part according to a signal current supplied from an electrode head part. CONSTITUTION:An electrode head part 1 comprises a plurality of electrode needles 11, 12 arranged in a support 13 in one or two arrays, vertically to the surface of this paper. A heat generating transfer material part 2 comprises a high-resistance layer 21 constituted of a high-resistance heat-resistant polymer sheet or the like, on which are provided in a laminate form a heat generating resistor layer 22 having an electric resistance lower than that of the layer 21 and a coloring material layer 23. For setting a heat generating part 22' close to the coloring material layer part, the layers 21 and 22 are preferably so constructed that the layer 21 is a thin high-resistance layer, whereas the layer 22 is a low-resistance layer, with a sheet resistivity ratio of the layer 21 to the layer 22 being, for example, about 10 so that heat generation occurs in the heat generating resistor layer 22. When a potential difference is provided between a discrete electrode 11 and a common electrode 12 and the sheet resistivity ratio of the high-resistance layer 21 to the heat generating resistor layer of the heat generating transfer material 2 is set to be high, a signal current path is so formed as to generate heat at least in the heat generating resistor layer between the electrodes, whereby a coloring matter is transferred to an image-receiving material 3, resulting in recording. |
