PURPOSE:To make the construction of a branching function part simpler and smaller by constituting the optical guides forming a cruciform where four optical fibers orthogonally intersect with the fibers alone. CONSTITUTION:The end faces of optical fibers 1 and 4 assume a right angle to the fiber axes. The end faces of optical fibers 2 and 3 are polished by giving inclination of 22.5 deg. to the fiber axes and are formed thererwith through vapor deposition with multilayer dielectric films 5a, 5b provided with such characteristics that reflect the light of a wavelength lambda1 and allow the transmission of the light of a wavelength lambda2. Thereupon, when the light of the wavelengths lambda1 and lambda2 is emitted from the fiber 1, the light of the wavelength lambda2 transmits through the multilayer dielectric films 5a evaporation deposited on the slope of the fiber 2, and enters the inside of the fiber 2. The light of the wavelength lambda1 is reflected and this reflected light is again reflected by the multilayer dielectric films 5b evaporation deposited on the slope of the fiber 3 and enters the inside of the fiber 4. In this way, the construction of the branching function part is made simpler and smaller. |
