In the hydroformylation of a compound having a carbon-carbon double bond with formation of alcohols and/or aldehydes in the presence of a transition metal (e.g. cobalt) carbonyl phosphine (or arsine, stibine) complex catalyst, deposition of transition metal on walls is considerably reduced and the catalyst is rendered considerably more stable by the presence of a dissolved salt of an alkyl-substituted arylsulphonic acid salt. |
