Neoschizophyllan of type having a three chain helicoidal conformation ((I) or Neoschizophyllan TSH) such as that prepd. by ultrasonic treatment of a colloidal soln. of schizophyllan (II) and fractional pptn. with a hydrophilic solvent, is new. The cpd. comprises units of formula (I) and has an intrinsic viscosity of 1-8 (dl/g). The new cpd. (I) is an antitumour agent having an activity equal to or better than that of schizophyllan, (II) low toxicity and forming aq. solns. of low viscosity which allow rapid absorption. (I) is administered orally or parenterally in doses of 0.005-10, pref. 0.05-2, mg/kg/day.
