PURPOSE:To enable the measurement of the quantity of ashes contained in papers in a short period of time accurately by superimposing a plurality of sheets of samples and correcting the output of a logarithmic amplifier corresponding to the number of sheets of the sample by an attenuator. CONSTITUTION:X-rays 2 emitted from an X-ray tube 1 permeate through a sample paper 3, and detected by an X-ray detector 4 and converted into an electric signal. This electric signal is logarithmically converted by the logarithmic amplifier 5, and is subjected to subtraction with a signal set at a quantity setter 8 by a subtractor 7. Then, the signal is amplified at a suitable amplification ratio by an output amplifier 9 and its amplification ratio adjusting potentiometer 10, and displayed as the ash content quantity by a 11. Upon this occasion, a suitable number of sheets of the sample are superimposed on each other and inserted in the bed of the sample paper 3, and an attenuator 6 is inserted between the logarithmic amplifier 5 and the subtractor 7, and the output of the logarithmic subtractor 5 is attennated at a ratio the same as the number of samples. Accordingly, the ash content quantity in the paper can be measured accurately and rapidly. |
