Six-stroke pulverised fuel Diesel engine - uses two additional strokes to compress air for introduction of fuel into cylinder

The i.c. Diesel engine uses a four-stroke Otto cycle with two additional strokes for inlet and compression of air. This is then used to move pulverised solid fuel into the cylinder. The transmission ratio between the crankshaft and cam shaft is arranged to provide six-stroke operation. The cams controlling the inlet valves are double-lobed to provide two openings per complete cycle. An additional valve is provided to control the outlet of compressed air from the cylinder.
