The turbine rotor (10) has the fluid flow passed through ducts (12) within the rotor, in three planes from inlet orifices (14) near the hub (16) on one end face. The passes first axially (24), then radially (28) and again axially (26) to outlets (18) near the periphery at the other end face (or vice versa for compressor). The peripheral rim area connects to the central body of the rotor via narrow radial spokes between the outlet segments (18). This area is reinforced by wire, strip, fibre or similar bandage (36,38) in a material with greater modulus of elasticity than that of the rotor material. This bandage is totally enclosed and contains the hub.
