The electric switch is designed for easy conversion for foot operation or hand operation. Two switches can be mounted on the same piece of equipment, one at low level for easy operation by a foot, and the other at a more conventional position for hand operation. The upper switch carries a swinging operating member with a curved pressure application surface designed so that an extra fitting can be added for foot operation when the switch is mounted at floor level. This fitting has a bulbous covering layer suitably shaped to act as a buffer to absorb the forces applied by the foot.
