The stitch plate adaptor, to convert a single-needle industrial sewing machine into a double-needle machine, has two pairs of parallel guides in the bed opening, for sliding plates to cover the mountings for two loopers. The surface of the sliding plates is level with the bed. There are two carrier bars below the upper surface of the bed, and a third pair of parallel guides run across the line of the other guides, to hold an adaptor at the end of any stitch plate type to be held in a number of positions, according to stitch plate type. A third sliding plate rides on the third parallel guides to shroud the first adaptor, with its upper surface level with the upper surface of the bed. A second adaptor has an adaptor rod for the first or second carrier bar, carrying the other end of the stitch plate from that against the first adaptor. The design allows a sewing machine bed to be used with a single or a double needle machine.
