Redn. of the Ca sulphate (I) content of water which is supersaturated with (I) is effected by adding crystalline (I) to a reactor with the form of an inverted truncated cone and having an inlet at the apex and an outlet at the top, introducing the supersaturated soln. through the inlet and discharging the excess treated water from the outlet. A crystalline and easily dewatered (I) ppte. is obtd. if gypsum crystals are placed in or near the apex.
