The device is characterised in that the offsetting is carried out by means of a stepping motor (24) acting on an adjusting spindle (19) which is in engagement with an adjusting nut (18) connected rigidly to the needle bed (12) to be offset. The stepping motor (24) is fed with pulses corresponding to the desired offset. For the exact adjustment of the offsettable needle bed relative to the other needle bed, there is additionally provided a zero transmitter (31) which supplies the zero pulse to the stepping motor and which is arranged adjustably.
