The indicator light has its colour produced by the colour of its reflector (10). The outer transparent cover (16) of the assembly has a gridwork comprising totally reflecting prisms (19) and lenses (18). An inner window (17) is located between the outer cover and the light-bulb and has lenses (20) to direct the light onto the lenses of the outer cover. External light incident on the totally-reflecting prisms (19) is reflected back outwards. The gridwork ensures that when the light is off, the colour of the indicator light is not visible. The outer cover may be replaced by a plane outer window with an extra window facing its inside surface. The extra window comprises a matrix of totally-reflecting prisms and holes. The holes take the place of the lenses in the original outer cover.
