The procedure for decelerating or steering a vessel underway employs two aerofoil - or otter-shaped buoyant control bodies (10,10a), rigidly (20) or flexibly linked to the vessel at the waterline. They can be inclined to the direction of travel of the vessel. The link pref. comprises two rods (30,35) running parallel but spaced apart. One rod (30) has one end (31) rigidly fixed to the vessel, the other (32) is flexibly connected to the control body near its bows. The rods run parallel to the vessel centreline. The other (35) has one end hinged (36) to the body at about mid- length, the other connected to a driving unit (37) which can push or pull it.
|
