A surface acoustic waves converter of the pin type comprises a backing (1) which has two areas (2 and 3) or more. The area (2) has piezoelectric properties and carries a main row (4) of electrodes (5 and 6). The area (3) does not have piezoelectric properties and carries an auxiliary row (7) of electrodes (8 and 9) Each row (4, 7) comprises two groups of interparallel electrodes (5, 6 and 8, 9). The electrodes (5 and 8) of one of the groups of those rows (4 and 7) are electrically connected to their conducting platforms (10 and 11). The electrodes (6 and 9) of the other groups of those rows (4 and 7) are galvanically connected with each other and are placed between the electrodes (5 and 8) of the first of the said groups of their rows (4 and 7) so as to constitute overlapping sections of permanent length of the electrodes (5, 6 and 8, 9) of both groups in the main row (4) and overlapping sections of variable length in the auxiliary row (7).
