Desalination of salt water by solar energy - using inclined evaporator-collector with separate condenser having inclined cool surface to collect condensate (BR 10.3.81)

Potable water is recovered from a crude water supply using a solar energy collector and a condenser. The collector has transparent panels and surfaces over which the water flows, generating vapour and establishing a recirculation. The hot water recirculates from a tank above which is a vapour space. Over the vapour space is an inclined surface, cooled by a crude water stream. Condensate runs down this surface and is collected into a separate tank. The system prepares potable sweet water from contaminated or saline crude water esp. sea water. The process does not require a large constructional and financial outlay and separation of the evaporation and condensation sections means that both can be optimised in design.
