The apparatus for untwisting an arbitrarily twisted textile skein senses the latter in respect of its twist automatically by means of an eccentrically pivotably mounted deflection device, over which the skein is guided, and controls the cage-like untwisting device. In order to steady the textile skein running through and to record the twist accurately thereby, a stabilising roller is provided between the untwisting device and the deflection device. The entire apparatus, with the untwisting device, stabilising roller and deflection device, is combined in a housing.
