<p>The cable reel is capable of storing telephone or lighting cable and has a two part overall cover enclosing a sprung take-up reel and a stop mechanism which operates once traction on the cable ceases, and releases only by a further tractive effort following its latching. The reel has a shallow cylindrical form, the outer cover halves (2,3) being snap fitted together by virtue of their inherent elasticity and shaped mating surfaces. The lower of the two halves has a central integral pillar (7) over which fits the take-up drum (5) which may have two or more annular storage spaces (6a,6b). The drum is offset within the casing providing a space for the spiral spring (4) and is held in position by two clips (8a,8b). A ratchet on the spring holding wall (10) ensures the stop action.</p> |
