<p>The lap passes between a pair of advancing rollers and a pair of delivery rollers arranged downstream, and the lap is broken by (1) intermittently reversing the direction of rotation of the advancing rollers; (2) intermittently moving the advancing rollers to rapidly increase the separation between the advancing and delivery rollers; or (3) forming one of the delivery rollers as a cylindrical segment so that the lap is intermittently broken when it is gripped between the segment and the other delivery roller. Drafting of the lap prior to combining is eliminated.</p> |
