<p>Method of heat treating 0.58-0.6% C steel blades used for the fixed grill and rotating cutters of a harvesting machine. The blades are fed to HF induction coil, which just covers the cutting edge. On applying current for 2-3 secs. the temperature is raised to about 800 degrees C at this edge and a small area surrounding. After dropping into oil quenching tank the cutting edge is hard and brittle but the remainder of blade is relatively ductile and elastic. In use, blades distort on contacting stones, rather than fracturing.</p> |
