Removal of a pelt or fleece, intact without damage to the skin. The technique employed comprises transporting pelts on an air pervious conveyor belt to an endless belt knife located at a bend in the conveyor. The pelt is held firmly to the bend by suction means employing a blower below the conveyor. As the pelt traverses the bend and engages the belt knife, a suction hood above the conveyor directs a flow air so as to lift the wool fibres upwardly in order to facilitate the cutting of the fibres. The air flowing in the hood also conveys by pneumatic in cans the severed fleece to a transport conveyor which carries the fleece to an inspection station. The cutting means is an endless belt splitting knife which is conventionally supported between two spaced wheels one of which is motor driven. The upper run of the knife travels in a generally horizontal plane transverse to the direction of movement of the conveyor.
|
