SOOT COLLECTOR OF MANUFACTURING APPARATUS FOR RODLIKE BASE MATERIAL FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled base material of predetermined quality by rotatably inserting a tube having a discharge outlet at the top side into an exhaust port section and putting a rolling member contacting to the inside of the tube into the tube to prevent soot from sticking to the exhaust port section. CONSTITUTION:Tube 8 having discharge outlet 7 at the top side is rotatably inserted into exhaust port section 3 of reactor 1, and rolling member 9 is put into tube 8 so that it contacts to the inside of tube 8. When rodlike base material A for an optical fiber is formed, by rotating tube 8 in section 3, soot generated by flame hydrolysis is considerably prevented from sticking to tube 8, and stuck soot is taken away by the scraping action of member 9. The soot is then discharged, and the discharge is facilitated by spiral groove 13 having powder feeding effect and made in the periphery of member 9.
