The smoothing scraper applies ink etc. to a base using a printing screen, relative movement between scraper and screen taking place during the printing operation on the side away from the base so as to form a wedge of ink. There is a further profiled section which precedes that of the scraper. This further section (2') forms an inflow gap (6), and encloses an ink chamber (7) on the rear side. The chamber is designed to be ink-tight and pressure-resistant.
