NEW MATERIAL:An active substance obtained by adding a coagulant to a cell-free extract prepared from a crushed bacterium body of a microorganism belonging to the genus Mycobacterium, and heating the formed precipitate in the presence of an aqueous solvent. USE:An antitumor agent and an adjuvant free from danger of infection due to no live bacteria and with low toxicity. Characterized by improved storage stability with the stopped autolysis of the active substance through heat treatment. PROCESS:A bacterium body, e.g. Mycobacterium tuberculosis var. bovis BCG Japan strain or Myco. tuberculosis var. hominis Aoyama strain, is crushed and filtered to give a cell-free extract. A coagulant is then added to the extract to precipitate and separate an active substance, which is suspended in an aqueous solvent, and if necessary the coagulant is removed and heated at 50-150 deg.C. The suspension is then cooled and if necessary freeze-dried to afford the aimed stable active substance. |
