<p>Fillers for papermaking are made hydrophobic by coating the filler particles with wax, preferably paraffin wax. The fillers may be used in the conventional way, being added either to the pulp or to coating formulations in the size press. The hydrophobic fillers are made by mixing a suspension of the particulate filler, preferably kaolin or chalk with an emulsion of the coating wax.</p> |
