A moving yarn or filament is detected by a photoelectric receiver responsive to the light scattered by the yarn or filament when at least a portion of it is encompassed by a pencil of light directed parallel to and lengthwise of the yarn or strip. The invertion may be applied to detect the waft yarn in a shuttleless loom and may be caused to operate an alarm or control. In cases where the detected light varies in a periodic manner an A.C. amplifier may be used and the results of standing light thus suppressed. |
