Continuous and adherent paint films on a metal surface are obtained by a deposition process by means of an aqueous suspension containing solid, thermoset, curable synthetic resin particles having a mean particle size of from 0.1 to 10 mu m and, as wetting agent, an alkylphenyl oxyethylate in which the molecular weight of the oxyethylate moiety is about 1700 and the number of carbon atoms in the alkyl radical is from 8 to 12, and/or an aminococo fatty acid oxyethylate in which an oxyethylate group having a molecular weight of between 90 and 440 is bonded to the amino group.
