Herbicidal composition containing, as active ingredient, pyridyloxyphenoxyalkanecarboxylic acid derivatives

A herbicidal composition for selectively controlling weeds in crops of useful plants contains, as active ingredient, novel pyridyloxyphenoxyalkanecarboxylic acid derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> in which the individual symbols have the meanings given in Claim 1. These derivatives are prepared by reacting a 2-pyridyl halide with a para-hydroxyphenoxyalkanecarboxylic acid derivative or by reacting a 4-(pyridyl-2'-oxy)-phenol with an alpha -haloalkanecarboxylic acid derivative.
