PURPOSE:A germicidal herbicide, useful as a growth retardant of turf, having improved control action against bacteria, molds and viruses and remarkable herbicidal effects, and comprising a new antibiotic herbicidin E and/or F as an active constituent. CONSTITUTION:A germicidal herbicide comprising a new antibiotic herbicidin E and/or F as an active constituent. The germicidal herbicide exhibits improved control effects on bacteria, molds and viruses doing damage to agricultural and horticultural crops, is effective in preventing germination of the seed of a higher plant and is capable of controlling weeds in a paddy field before germination thereof in a flooded state without doing damage to a transplanted rice plant. Particularly, the herbicidin F shows remarkable effects on perennial weeds in a paddy field and is useful as a growth retardant of turf. As for a microorganism capable of producing the new antibiotic, Streptomyces saganonensis strain No.4075 may be cited. |
