The cask comprises a cylindrical trunk (1) with end walls (2,3), and over the trunk length are distributed several outwardly directed reinforcement ridges (4,5). These ridges each have the same cross-sectional profile, and extend at ninety degrees to the centre line of the cask trunk. This common ridge profile is non-symmetrical, there being one long (7) and one short (6) side. Each end wall of the cask has a ventilation hole and a filling aperture, the latter running at 180 degrees to the cask centre line. The shaping of the ridges allows economy of space in storage and transport of casks, whereby the long sides (7) of adjoining cask ridges can abut.
|
