The stretcher is made from a heavy fabric such as canvas, coated with plastics if required. Several handholds (10) are provided along the two parallel sides of the rectangular fabric and at least one along the remaining shorter sides. These handholds comprise elongated slots, strengthened by a double thickness of material sewn over. Short rigid reinforcing grips are positioned between the holes and the sides. Further in and adjacent to the handholds are reinforced sleeves (12,13) for locating carrying poles (14). These are made from an additional thickness of fabric, sewn parallel to the long sides.
