<p>At least one curved contact plate or segment (2) is located on the periphery of the electrode (1) and inside a circular row of segments (3). Each segment (3) contains a circular hole (7); and on the base of hole (7) is a ring flange (13) employed to anchor one end of an expandable bellows tube (12). The other end of tube (12) is closed by a plate (11). When pressurised cooling water is fed via a segment (3) into tube, (12) the latter expands axially to push segment (2) against electrode (1), thus making good electrical contact. The invention eliminates the use of rubber membranes employed to press the contact segments (2) against the electrode- such membranes do not withstand high temps.</p> |
