Salt compsn. for strewing on winter ice on road surfaces contains Ca and/or Mg oxide and/or carbonate, pref. calcined dolomite, esp. soft-burned oxides. Pref. the amts. used are 5-75(15-55)(wt.)% oxide(s) or max. 70(40-60% carbonate(s), esp. 20-30(25)% salt, 20-30(25)% (soft)burned dolomite and 60-40(50)% dolomite. Mixt. has a similar effect to an equal amt. of rock salt but causes less environmental pollution and damage than pure salt.
