The cutting device has two or more heads for dovetail cutting, a gluing device with two or more gluing units, and a press for pressing the treated ends together. The unit joins the end faces of pieces of wood together, the cutter heads and gluing units being relatively movable on a shaved frame, and operating in succession. The pressing device is also fitted on the same common machine frame (121). The machine bench (153,154) is shared by all three sets of devices, each with a movable retaining cylinder (148,149) to clamp the timbers (112) in position.
