PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a reproduced picture of excellent resolution and sharpness by performing arithmetic processing to a fixed density as to read picture-element information. CONSTITUTION:An input picture-element signal from a scanner is quantized by A/ D converter 1 into a quinary signal, which is sent to memory 3 and each picture element information on specific picture-element areas of three by three is collected and stored, thereby determining the density level of each small picture element when arithmetic circuit 3 converts the same areas into small picture-element areas of six by six in accordance with the memory contents. Next, each small picture-element information processed to a high picture-element density is sent to memory 4, whose memory contents are transferred successively to arithmetic circuit 6 by way of gate 5 to determine the density level of each intermediate picture element when the same areas are converted into intermediate picture-element areas of four by four. Then, each intermediate picture-element information processed to a low picture-element density is stored in memory 7 and then sent to the plotter successively, reproducing the picture. |
