Four stroke IC engine exhaust system - has gases released via piston controlled slots at end of working stroke to utilise remaining energy

The exhaust system for a four-stroke engine releases the combustion gases at the end of a working stroke into the exhaust pipe (1) via slots (6) controlled by the piston. From here the gases can be passed to an ejector (2). This draws out the expanded remaining gases from the cylinder when the exhaust valve (4) opens, via the exhaust branch (3). This allows utilisation of the remaining energy in the exhaust gases.
