Screw-driver with interchangeable bits - has hexagonal shanks locked by ball in spring loaded taper sleeve

The screw-driver is designed to use interchangeable bits with hexagonal shanks. It has a hexagonal recess (5) in the end of the shaft (3). The bit is locked in place by a ball (17) which is wedged in the taper bore (16) of a spring loaded sleeve (12). The ball (17) is trapped in a slot (18) in the wall of the hexagonal recess (5). In order to remove a bit the sleeve (12) is pushed downwards against the spring (9) so that the ball (17) can move radially outwards when it is aligned with the larger end of the taper bore (16).
