Slow-speed synchronous motor - has aluminium housing with half acting as short-circuit ring for stator flux

The motor has double coaxial stators (3,4) with the rotor (5) positioned between them. Each stator (3,4) consists of a coil (7,12) with a carrier (8,13) a core (9,14) and pole flank rings (10,11, 15,16). The phase-shifted magnetic flux for the second stator (4) is provided by the adjacent sheet aluminium housing-half (2) and directed to the other stator pole via one or two short-circuit rings (17). The core sleeves (9,14) for each stator have a relatively large wall thickness and the inner pole flank rings (11,16) are attached to them by resistance print welding. The stators (3,4) are rigidly attached to the adjacent housing half (1,2) via axial screws or rivets, or alternatively they may be each supported by an aluminium stator carrier.
