Polyamide thread for surgical body implant - contg. antibacterial prepn. and prepd. by washing process

The thread contains 0.1-5% of an antibacterial prepn. and is fabricated from polyamide fibres of 5-10 mu thickness, comprising 500 twists per m. of fibre, the size of the cells of the thread being up to 1-1.5 x 1.2-2.0mm. The thread is prepd. by first treating it twice with a non-ionogenic washing cpd. at 20-90 degrees C for 5-30 mins., then treating first with boiling water for 5-30 min. followed by treating with water at 1-30 degrees C. It is then treated with alcohol or acetone at ambient temp. for 5-30mm., followed by washing with distilled water and then draining to a 50% max. moisture content. It is then treated with solns. of antibacterial prepns. at 20-90 degrees C for 5-120 min. followed by water washing at 5-30 degrees C for 5-30 min. and drying at 20-100 degrees C to a 2-5% moisture content. The thread is compatible with the organism and sufficiently stable for the recovery period, unlike previous threads which often provoke suppuration.
