The boring tool has a taper shank (12) which fits in a taper bore (8) of the tool body (2). The axis of the taper bore (8) is eccentric to the rotational axis of the tool body. Thus rotating the shaft (16) with respect to the body (2) varies the radial distance of the cutting edge (18). The shaft (16) is locked by the force of a stack of disc springs (42). This force can be overcome by expanding a spreader ring (24) by screwing in a plug (30) which forces open the gap (34). The shaft can then be rotated by a worm and wheel drive (50) (38) to produce the required adjustment.
