Org. impurities in crude saccharin(-5000ppm) are decreased to <120ppm by extg. the aq. soln. of a saccharin salt (alkali, alkaline earth, iron) with AcOBu or AcOBu-AcOEt, and then further reduced to <10ppm by recrystn. from H2O. Thus, extn. of aq. Na saccharinate with AcOBu for 2 hr at room temperature reduces impurities to 70 ppm, and recrystn. from H2O gives a redn. to 2ppm. |
