This invention relates to a process and an apparatus for ridding the worn anode butts of electrolysis bath crusts(14) which adhere to them. The apparatus essentially comprises a jack(17) supporting a pneumatic drill equipped with a percussion tool(16). The jack is supported by a movable and orientatable arm. The recovery of worn andoes appleis to the igneous electrolysis cells for the manufacture of aluminium.
