An elongate element (2) such as an electrical or control cable or a conduit can be mounted in an aperture (3) in a flange (4) by means of a sheath (5) of a resilient, thermoplastic heat-recoverable material. The sheath (5) is heated, axially extended and then cooled while on a mandrel (not shown) of similar dimensions to the element (2), after which the extended sheath (5) is located on the element (2) within the aperture (3) and then reheated so that in resuming its former shape the sheath (5) contracts axially and expands radially, filling the gap between the element (2) and the aperture (3) and forming beads on opposite sides of the flange (4). A single sheath, expanded on a mandrel, can be sub-divided to provide sections locatable in respective apertures (3) at intervals spaced along the length of the element (2). On the mandrel the sheath is preferably extended by 50% of its former length while at a temperature in the range 200 DEG C- 250 DEG C. <IMAGE> |
